Music, events and places

Music venues are the focus of my PhD. Bringing together ideas from geography, ethnomusicology and architecture I examine how these unique sites have been created, I explore the different ways in which they are experienced by various artists, audiences and employees who inhabit them and I consider the relationships between the material & concrete structures of these buildings and the intangible & fleeting events of live music that they contain.

Currently I am working with two venues in London The Troubadour in Earl’s Court and The Roundhouse in Camden as part of the second year of my AHRC funded PhD. I am based within the cultural geography department at Royal Holloway University supervised by Geographer Tim Cresswell.

This site is a collection of information about myself and my current/ past research projects, it is also the home of my online research method called GigStudy. Feel free to browse the past dissertations and projects that make up my previous work, read a more academic introduction to my PhD work here, or see a little of my personal background on this page.

If you want to get in touch for any reason please contact me here and I'll get back to you as quicly as I can.
